Infant Colic Drops work wonders

Hankie

Stocking up handkerchief (also known as hankie) is useful. Hankie is a square piece of cloth used for wiping eyes or nose, and most useful as bib while feeding baby.

Right now my collection have grown to more than 50 hankie at home... Will put away each hankie, as soon as feed is complete; so that the left over milk on the hankie will not affect the skin of my delicate baby face and lead to milk rash.

Don't overbuy new born size items

Based on my experience, do not over stock on the new born size items as the most you will use is 1 month or the most up to 1.5 months.

Items such as new born (NB) diaper..., 1 pack is usually sufficient. Try to get 1 S Size to spare if you are afraid to use up all the NB size during the confinement period.

New born clothings, just get 2-3 sets is enough as you might get some from the gift hampers from your friends or relatives. Spread out the buying to zero-6 months, 6-12 months clothings, as different brand produces different dimensions for the baby clothes. Also, different babies have different body frame, some might be small while some slightly bigger. So, if you buy bigger clothing size, the baby could wear a longer period of time.

Baby toiletries item like baby shampoo, baby powder, lotion, body wash etc.. don't buy big bottles as you might not know which one is suitable for your baby yet. You might also get some free samples, use those first before buying more.

That's my two cents about spending wisely for new born babies ... To 1st time parents, enjoy baby shopping spree.

You will notice that every baby items are so cute & adorable (tempted to buy all.? ... hehehe...); do spend wisely... so that you won't need to store new item without even using them :)

Baby Thermometer

With baby around, it is essential to invest thermometer at home. There are several types of thermometers in the market.

Ear (digitial) thermometer - Placed in your baby's ear and gives a digital reading after a few seconds. It is quick and accurate, but expensive.

Plastic strip thermometer - Held against your baby's forehead for 15seconds, until it changes colour to indicate temperature. These strips are safe, quick and inexpensive. The reading might not as accurate as the digitial thermometer.

Glass thermometer (which contain mercury) - accurate and a lot less expensive. Slightly harder to measure on active babies or toddlers when they move around. Don't break the glass thermometer, the dangerous mercury will leak out.

Digital Pacifier Thermometer - Disguised as a pacifier, easiest to measure baby temparature if they are keen on sucking on pacifier.

For babies 6 months and younger, it is not recommended to take baby's temperature via rectal method. Putting a thermometer in the rectum may cause injury.

Do invest in a good baby thermometer at home. (my preference is the digital thermometer)... Is worthwhile to have it ready and handy.

Value per piece or per content

Have you ever divide the price of a purchase with the pieces or content such as ml or litres when buying your babies product ? For instance, there are 2 sizes of packaging for the same product. Eg. The bigger packing size of 50 pieces cost RM53 while another size with 40 pieces cost RM41.

First thing that came to your mind, most likely is to get the bigger pack. When you calculate, you will notice a heaps of savings you will get if you buy in bulk quantity.

Simple calculation
RM53/ 50 = RM1.06
RM41 / 40 = RM1.025
